About This Game
PES 2018 Mobile, designed for iOS and Android, surpassed 150 million downloads by August 2018. PES 2018 paved the way for its successor, Pro Evolution Soccer 2019.
In terms of development, Konami maintained continuity from the previous release, introducing a special "Barcelona Edition" and pre-order bonuses for digital and physical versions. Licensed teams included Barcelona, Atlético Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, and Liverpool. A demo version was released on August 30, 2017, for select platforms, featuring limited stadiums, clubs, and features. Although no Nintendo Switch version was developed, Konami expressed openness to the idea for future releases.
Data Pack updates were introduced, with Data Pack 1 launching on October 5, 2017, featuring player face updates, new boots, and improved backboards in Master League for Barcelona. Data Pack 2.0, released on November 15, 2017, introduced Arsenal's Emirates Stadium, the Estadio Nacional in Santiago, Chile, along with new boots and player faces. However, it also removed licenses for Avaí, Fluminense, São Paulo, and Vasco da Gama players, replacing them with generic players.
PES 2012 brought innovations like enhanced ball intelligence, spatial positioning, and wingers attempting overlaps. In 2013, PES continued with facial identification improvements, and ongoing updates aimed to assist new players with the latest features.
Critically acclaimed, PES 2018 received positive reviews, with Metacritic scores of 81/100 (PC), 83/100 (PS4), and 82/100 (XONE). IGN lauded it as "Amazing," setting a high standard for sports games with a score of 9.2 out of 10. GameSpot dubbed it "the most satisfying football game ever made" and emphasized its superior on-pitch gameplay compared to FIFA 18.
